Carl and Dorthy Painter

Carl and Dorothy Painter served at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, Illinois for many years. Dr. Painter taught mathematics, physics, and engineering courses, and Mrs. Painter aided many students taking exams. They both loved interacting with students, staff, and faculty, and when they passed away their friends at the college placed a memorial for them on campus. The signs read, “In Loving Memory of Dr. Carl Painter, Associate Dean, Math Dept. Chair, Professor, Solar Car Engineer, From His Friends & Co-workers at LLCC” and “In Loving Memory of Dorothy Painter, Study Skills Program Assistant, 08/23/89 to 01/31/00, From Her Friends and Co-workers at LLCC.”

Dear Family and Friends of Carla,

With tear-filled eyes we write to you that our beloved wife, mother and sister is on her way to reunite with Jesus.

In our tears we feel immense loss, yet simultaneously, hope-filled joy!
We are relieved to know Carla will no longer be in pain. In the past month Carla’s health has deteriorated and has taken turns we did not expect. Since 2011, she has endured more than any of us could imagine and has rallied after every treatment.

In every battle, Carla has been the victor.
Surgeries, chemo, radiation and more, she has endured.
However, today cancer has brought Carla, our mighty warrior, down at last.
But…
Cancer forgot that Carla has a stronger weapon which secures the outcome of this war.
The One who Carla has never lost sight of in this fight.
Her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He is about to breathe new life into her, cleanse her of these tumors and banish pain from ever touching her again. This is truly about to be Carla’s happiest day.

We shed tears of joy because she is going to be welcomed so grandly in the kingdom of Heaven. At this very moment, Carla is dressed in purple, and we know the Lord will welcome her like royalty when she arrives. Since we know Carla is so humble, we can already see her face flush from the overwhelming attention of being greeted at the gate. We know though, her honor is SO well deserved. She has run her race faithfully and as an obedient servant of the Lord.

Carla is truly experiencing 2 Timothy 4:9-8:
“As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me — the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of His return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to His appearing.”

We cannot thank each and every one of you for the love you have bestowed on Carla and her family throughout her life. Even though you may not be physically present, your love and prayers are filling our home with peace.

There will be funeral services in both Ohio and Missouri.

Our one request is in lieu of gifts, flowers and meals is that donations be made to a specific fund to create a memorial for Carla at Oak Hill Chapel. We know nothing would please her more than furthering the gospel and supporting the ministry which she has contributed many years to make possible. She, along with her father, Carl Painter, and mother, Dorothy, will be recognized for many generations to come. Thanks in advance for your generosity and love at this time.

With love,

The Leitners – Tony, Rebekah, Erin and Joel
The Painter Sisters – Ann, Hazel, Mary
